Names without parenthesis are the names associated with the music on the ride music selection pulldown list in the game.

Names in parenthesis are descriptions I gave to the sounds. "circus sounds" is the sound you hear comming from the Circus flat ride. "crowd sounds" is the sound you hear when the park fills up with peeps. "main title music" is the RCT2 theme music you here on the Main Title screen. None of these music files are available for selection in a ride music selection pulldown list.

The 11 "fairground organ music" files contain the music that plays from the Merry-go-round flat ride. These files play sequentially and then repeat. This music also is not available for selection in a ride music selection pulldown list.

HELP: I could use assistance matching the fairground organ music files with the actual song names of the music being played. Here is a list of the songs...

March - Children of the Regiment
Heyken's Serenade
In Continental Mood
Wedding Journey
Tales from the Vienna Woods
Slavonic Dance
Das Alpenhorn
The Blond Sailor
Overture - Poet and Peasant
Waltz Medley
Bella Bella Bimba

============================================

The following music is new to RCT2:

Organ style
Mechanical style
Modern style
Pirates style
Rock style 3
Candy style

Also, there is a new 1:02 minute Fairground Organ Music file (css12.dat).

The main title music is also different in RCT2, replacing the title music that was available in RCT1.

There is a readme (CUSTOM.TXT) in the games Data directory stating that you can still add two custom music files that will appear on the ride music selection pulldown list. Full information about the music file format as well as what the names MUST be and what directory they must be placed in can also be found in this file.

I have tested this, and they do work. I have also tested if music from RCT1 can be used as one of these custom music files, and they all appear to work just fine (including the old RCT1 theme music).

Note however that you CANNOT replace existing DAT music files with replacements, because the game will fail to load. This means for example that if you wanted to replace the Band Organ with new songs like you could in RCT1 (like for example the ones Steve Franks made available for RCT1), it is not possible.

==============

In converting a lot of music to dats for RCT, I discovered that one can save a lot of bytes by recording in 8 bit rather than 16. Since the music is competing with the din of other noises, music and special effects in the game, 8 bit quality is fine and will cut your sound files in half.

Recording in mono rather than stereo is also recommended since the stereo recording is of no value. Your music will be coming from a point source (the ride) in the game. Any stereo effects in the game come from where on the screen the sound source is, and this is a function of the game not the recording.
